ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern defeated Hamline University Saturday night at the Ericksen Center with a final score of 76-58.
The Eagles battled back and forth with the Pipers for the entire first half, leading by just one 17-16 in the first quarter and 35-32 in the second.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led UNW with ten points at half, with
Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) with nine, due to seven out of ten free throws made.
Northwestern reached a ten point advantage after the third quarter, with a score of 50-40. Reaching a 16 point lead due to a reverse layup by
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk), the Eagles led 67-51 with just under four minutes to go. As time expired, Hamline was unable to recover from their deficit, as UNW finished 76-58.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield)'s stand out performance of 20 points led the pack, followed by
Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) (13),
Kim Campbell (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) (12), and
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) (10) also in the two-digit range. Cunard was credited a double double tonight with an additional 10 rebounds.
Northwestern will host Macalester College Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before Thanksgiving break. The Eagles will travel to Northland College next Friday for the first conference game of the season with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
