Eagles Victoriously Claim 83-64 Win Over Concordia Cobbers

ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern came out victorious over Concordia College Saturday afternoon with a final score of 83-64. The Eagles improve to an undefeated 4-0 this season. 

Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) opened up the game with a three pointer, followed by a Cobbers three in the first minutes of play. CC made an offensive push, leading 15-7 with just over minutes left in the half. Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) put the Eagles back on the map with seven points in the next two minutes. Cody Sprenger (Grey Eagle, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) drained a shot from downtown, taking the 21-20 lead for the Eagles with six minutes on the clock in the first. Northwestern gained an eight point lead, ending the first with a 38-30 advantage.

Michael Carney (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian)'s three pointer at the 14 minute countdown forced a Cobbers timeout on the floor as the Eagles led 51-37. Clay Elrod (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) added four points in the next 30 seconds, giving UNW a comfortable 19 point lead with 12 minutes left. Michael Carney (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) kept the heat going with 12 points in under three minutes, bringing the Eagles to a 25 point edge over Concordia. Able to hold their lead, Northwestern finished with a score of 83-64.

Michael Carney (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) led the pack with 23 points. Will Gisler (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) (14) and Kyle Ooms (Hollandale, MN/Albert Lea High School) (10) also earned double digits this afternoon. Ooms came away with a double double with his 11 rebounds. 

Northwestern will play at Macalester College Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before Thanksgiving break. UNW will face Bethel University for another non-conference game the following Tuesday in Arden Hills with a 7 p.m. start time.
