ST. PAUL — The University of Northwestern women's basketball team fell in tough battle against Buena Vista University with a final score of 78-69 at the Ericksen Center.
Battling neck in neck, the Eagles trailed the Beavers by one with a score of 19-18 after the first quarter. Northwestern claimed a 36-32 lead at halftime.
Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) led UNW with nine points, followed by
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) with eight.
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) had an impressive nine rebounds in the first half alone. Pulling ahead of the visitors, the Eagles increased their lead to 52-49 after the third, but the Beavers pulled ahead in the fourth claiming the 79-69 win over the Eagles.
Northwestern had four players in double digit points. Leading the pack was
Regan Cooper (Pella, Iowa/Pella) (16), followed by
Courtney Cunard (Missouri Valley, Iowa/Missouri Valley) (12),
Jessica Cole (Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) (12), and
Amy Berglund (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (10). Berglund had an impressive double double, also adding 13 total rebounds.
The Eagles 45.6 percent in the field, compared to the Beavers' 37.3. However, BVU led in the three-point category with 24 percent versus the Eagles' 17.6.
The Eagles (1-2) will host Hamline University tomorrow night with a tipoff time of 5 p.m. at the Ericksen Center.
