MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The University of Northwestern ended in a tie with North Central University in a double overtime game Wednesday afternoon at Elliott Park. This was the debut season on North Central's renovated turf field in Minneapolis.
The Eagles had two close scoring opportunities. With 35:45 left in the first half,
Joshua Fryc (Harris, Minn./Homeschool) headed a ball just wide of the goal off a corner kick and with 27 minutes remaining,
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) just missed a header a foot to the left of the post. The Eagles put a point on the board when
Joshua Fryc (Harris, Minn./Homeschool) scored deep into the net with 19 minutes left in the first from 40 yards back. With a 1-0 advantage, UNW led at half.
NCU's David Afolabi scored in the 56th minute to tie the game up, but with double overtime, neither team could secure a win.
Northwestern outshot North Central 19-12 with 13 corner kicks for the game.
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) tallied seven saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles will host Northland College on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. for a crucial Upper Midwest Athletic Conference contest at Reynolds Field.
