ST. PAUL — Men's soccer dropped a 3-0 game to Hamline University Monday night due to a hat trick from Abbai Habte.
Abbai Habte scored in the 16th minute due to an incredible shot from 10 yards back deep into the Eagles' goal. Habte scored again just before the first half ended with one minute left. At halftime, the Eagles were down 2-0, out-shot 8-2 by the Pipers. With five shots on goal, freshman goalkeeper
Jared Brown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Minnehaha ) had three saves in the first.
Northwestern's tough defense fended off the Pipers for the next 20 minutes but due to a hand ball in the box, Abbai Habte executed a penalty kick with 63 minutes on the board, giving HU a 3-0 victory.
UNW's three shots on goal weren't enough to capitalize against HU's eight.
Northwestern will travel down the road to North Central University for a crucial conference matchup at 3:15 p.m. in Minneapolis. The Eagles will host North Central on Saturday afternoon with a kickoff time of 3:15 p.m.
