ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern football team (5-2, 5-1 UMAC) will look to get back on track Saturday as they host Westminster College (5-2, 5-1 UMAC) from Fulton, Mo. The action between the Eagles and Blue Jays will get underway at 12 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
THE NORTHWESTERN FILEThe Eagles enter Saturday with a 5-2 overall record and 5-1 mark in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. UNW dropped a hard-fought contest to St. Scholastica last week, falling to the visiting Saints 13-7. Northwestern and Westminster sit tied for second in the league standings with 5-1 conference records.
A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTWestminster makes the trip north from Fulton, Mo., with a 5-2 overall record. The Bluejays lost their season opener to Southwestern Assemblies and dropped their Oct. 3 game with Crown, 29-21. Westminster most recently defeated Martin Luther 61-7 last weekend on Homecoming in Fulton.
DOMINANT DEFENSEThe Eagles defense continues to be a bright spot this fall, as the unit most recently held St. Scholastica to a season-low 13 points last week. UNW ranks seventh nationally in total defense, as the Eagles are surrendering an average of just 226.3 yards per game.
OUTSTANDING OFFENSENorthwestern is averaging better than 365 yards of total offense per game and putting up more than 30 points per contest.
Grant Schoen (Independence, Minn. /Orono)'s 164.9 passing yards per game ranks second in the conference, while
Caleb Couwenhoven (Blaine, Minn./Fridley) is tied for third in the UMAC with his average of 59 receiving yards per game. In the last two seasons at home, UNW is outscoring its opponents 274-117.
