Northwestern Splits on Day Two of Eau Claire Tournament; Finishes Weekend 3-1

 

Eau Claire, Wis. – The University of Northwestern volleyball team came away 1-1 on day two of the UW-Eau Claire Tournament with a 3-2 victory over Buena Vista University and a 3-0 loss against the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. UNW had its14-game win streak snapped by the BluGolds.
 
Game 1 vs BVU (26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11)
 
Northwestern edged out Buena Vista (15-11) in a big weekend for the Purple squad. Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) had an explosive double double with 21 kills and digs. Jackie Foster (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led the Eagles in digs with 22. Buena Vista out-blocked UNW 17-13 and out-aced them 9-6 but Northwestern sealed the deal with seven more kills in the match.
Lydia Palkert (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian)'s .440 was double the percentage of any other hitter on both teams. Faith Vander Galien (Chanhassen, Minn./Southwest Christian) had the most blocks with seven, the second highest among the two squads.
 
Game 2 vs. EWEC (21-25, 22-25, 21-25)
 
Jackie Foster (Charles City, Iowa/Charles City) led the pack with 21 digs, with Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) earning her second double double game of the day. Northwestern out-blocked Eau Claire 10-4 but were edged out in digs, kills, and aces. Both teams struggled in hitting percentage, both below the .180 mark.
 
Northwestern (20-8) will continue Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night as they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior for a crucial UMAC match. The first serve will begin at 7 p.m. at the Ericksen Center. UNW will travel to Duluth on Saturday afternoon for a second match of the week against the College of St. Scholastica with a starting time of 3 p.m.
