In the neighboring battle, Bethel takes the 6-1 victory over the Eagles

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn – In the neighboring battle, Bethel University came out on top over the University of Northwestern, with the Eagles losing 6-1. Defender Robbie Denniston (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) took advantage of an opportunity and took home the solo Eagle goal of the night.

The Royals quickly tallied up three goals within the first twenty minutes, including a header in the back of the net from Jake Opheim. Stephen Gronseth added back-to-back goals for the Royals at the 30 and 35 minute marks, and with a 5-0 deficit, the home team led the Eagles 5-0 at half.

The Purple and Gold limited Bethel to one goal in the second half; however their five shots on goal weren't enough in comparison to the Royals' 11 for the night. Robbie Denniston (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) put Northwestern on the board in the 70th minute by taking a hard fire from 35 yards back, making it the Eagle's first goal of the season and the first goal of his career as a senior defender.

Northwestern (0-3) will finally host their first home game on the new turf on Friday night at 4 p.m. against Augustana College (Ill.) and again on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play will begin on September 19 as the Eagles take on Northland College at Reynolds Field.
