Unsuccessful first half leads to Eagles 4-0 loss to Macalester

Box Score

ST. PAUL— The University of Northwestern was unable to execute on Saturday night, losing 4-0 to host Macalester College. The Eagles gave up three goals in the first half and couldn't overcome the deficit.

The home team was the first to get on the board notching a goal in the 16th minute. The Scots executed a heavily offensive game, limiting the Eagles' one opportunity on goal and placing them at a 3-0 disadvantage going into the second half.

The second period looked similar to the first with the Scots' offensive push. Northwestern continued to battle, earning three shots on goal before time would run out. The attempts proved unsuccessful however, sending the visitors home still seeking its first victory this season.

On a positive note, the Eagles improved in the second half offensively with twice as many shots on goal and defensively with four more saves in the goal.

Northwestern (0-2) continues non-conference games and will face Bethel University Tuesday night at 5 p.m in Arden Hills, Minn. The Eagles will finally host their first home game on the new turf on Friday night at 4 p.m. against Augustana College (Ill.). UMAC play will begin on September 19 as the Eagles take on Northland College at Reynolds Field.
