Men’s soccer unable to stop momentum in 6-0 loss to St. Olaf

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's soccer team fell short in its first contest of the season Friday evening, losing 6-0 to St. Olaf College. The Eagles were unable to hold back the home team's 90 minutes of strong offense.

St. Olaf made its presence known early on with a goal from Kevin Skrip just under the five minute mark. The Oles gained more momentum scoring two more goals, putting them at a 3-0 lead at half. The home team had more than enough opportunities to score with eight shots on goal in the first half alone compared to the single shot on goal by the Eagles.

Facing a 0-3 deficit, Northwestern continued to struggle defensively against the Oles in the second half, allowing three more goals. The home team kept Purple and Gold's offensive opportunities to a minimum. On the defensive end, Jordan Salm (Cleveland, Wis./Sheboygan North) picked up 11 saves in goal for the Eagles. In the 72nd minute, Turner Main (Kewauee, Wis./Kewaunee) took over the goal for the remainder of the game. With 18 Ole shots on goal, it proved to be a busy night for the freshmen goalkeepers in their first collegiate game.

Northwestern (0-6) will play again tomorrow night at Macalester College at 4 p.m. The Eagles will host their first home game on the new turf on September 5 at 4 p.m. against Augustana College (Ill.). UMAC play will begin on September 19 as the Eagles take on Northland College at Reynolds Field.
