Box Score ST. ANTHONY VILLAGE, Minn. – Playing at their new home away from home at Palm Field at St. Anthony Village High School, the Eagles from the University of Northwestern dropped their final regular season game of the 2014 slate, 11-8, to Hamline University. UNW, who was the visiting team on the scoreboard, watched the Pipers score runs in six innings throughout the night.
Hamline built up an early lead that never faded despite a late innings push by the Eagles. Leading 2-1, the Pipers scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to improve their buffer to 7-1. Harley Thompson had something to do with that spree as his grand slam over the left field fence off of
Benjamin Jenney (Albertville, Minn./Maranatha Christian).
Northwestern, who got a first inning run courtesy of a double down the left field line from
Andy Peterson (Rogers, Minn./Rogers), scored four runs in the top of the sixth to put itself back in contention.
Ryan Sutterer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka ) answered with a solo home run of his own to right field before
Brady Arneson (Fosston, Minn./Fosston) followed with an RBI single.
Hamline added insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh frames before negating the Eagles' four-run sixth with two more coming across in the eighth as Thompson hit his second homer of the night.
UNW finished with three runs in the top of the night thanks to three RBI singles.
Jesse Donahue (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) took credit for the loss on the hill for Northwestern, working four innings that saw the sophomore give up five earned runs while striking out three.
Aaron Rau (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge),
Andy Haagenson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley), and Mike Studer all had two hits on the night while
Tyler Osborn (Clive, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
