Box Score 2 MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Northwestern softball team dropped a pair of games against the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Thursday evening, losing 12-1 and 13-2 to the Blue Devils. The Eagles are back in action again right away on Friday afternoon.
Northwestern's lone run of the first game came in the fourth inning when
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) scored on a two-out error by Stout with
Morgan Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) at the plate. Other than that, everything went the Blue Devils' way as the home team out-hit UNW 11-3. Stout got off to a great start with a seven-run first inning, adding four more runs in the third.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis)'s ERA took a hit, as the Eagles pitcher was charged with all 12 of Stout's runs in the loss.
Northwestern was able to bring one more run across the plate in Game 2, but other than that, Thursday's second round was very similar to the first game. Again, UNW was outhit by a large margin, 11-3 while the Eagles committed three defensive errors in the field in the shortened five-inning contest.
Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) was credited with the loss in the pitcher's circle as she allowed 13 runs, 10 of which were earned, in three innings of work.
Kaia Larson (Ramsey, Minn./Meadow Creek) wrapped up the day with a one-hit fourth inning.
Both UNW's
Erin Kleinjan (Avon, Minn./Holdingford) and
Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy) were 1-for-2 in the batter's box in the game.
Now 6-13 in 2014, Northwestern heads back out on the road on Friday, heading west instead of east as the Eagles are scheduled to face Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minn. Friday's first pitch is expected to be thrown at 3 p.m.
