Box Score ST. PAUL – The Northwestern men's soccer team secured a 3-1 over Martin Luther College Friday afternoon at Reynolds Field.
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) had a big day for the Eagles on offense, scoring all three goals.
With 20 minutes of trading possession,
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) took initiative and scored the first goal of the goal by outracing the Knights' goalkeeper Caleb King. Fast added an additional goal in the 31st minute from a hard shot from 10 yards back on the left side assisted by
Micah Mogler (Mendota Heights, Minn./LCA). Freshman
Ethan Hart (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) almost had a goal of his own with a missed header with seven minutes left on the clock. Aaron Markgraf put the Knights on the board with a goal from 10 yards back on the left, assisted by Colin Bahmer with 5:15 minutes left in the first half. Unable to respond to Northwestern's early goals, Martin Luther went into the half down 2-1 to the home team.
With 52 minutes on the clock, Northwestern's Fast had a breakaway but just as Caleb King charged out of the goal, Fast shot high and King made a leaping save by blocking the ball out of the goal. With 8:40 left in the second half, Daniel Clotaire sent the ball to Fast who pulled out a hat trick for UNW, making it his third goal of the afternoon. With no additional goals, the home team secured the 3-1 win over Martin Luther.
Defensively, Eagle goalkeeper
Turner Main (Kewauee, Wis./Kewaunee) tallied five saves for the afternoon, making it 12 for the year for the freshman. The Eagles barely out-shot the Knights 14-13 with three more shots on goal.
Northwestern (5-9-1 Overall, 4-3-1 UMAC) will host the University of Minnesota Morris tomorrow night at 4 p.m. The Eagles will head north next weekend to face the College of St. Scholastica on Friday at 1 p.m. and Northland College at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
