Box Score ST. PAUL – In their first homecoming game on the newly renovated Reynolds Field, the University of Northwestern's men's soccer team defeated North Central University 3-1 on Saturday night.
The visiting Rams were the first to take action in the first half when sophomore Jake Salem scored six minutes into the game, assisted by Jake Loukinen. The home team responded with freshman
Matthew McCann (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) heading in the corner kick from
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) in the 21st minute. Just three minutes later,
David Mooers (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) would score again for Northwestern off of a ball from McCann. The Eagles out-shot the Rams 13-3 in the first half, going into the second period with a 2-1 lead.
With 23 minutes left in the game, Fast crossed it into McCann from the left side where he took a hard shot but the ball bounced off the field goal post back into the goalkeeper's position. Freshman
Ethan Hart (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) scored his first goal of his career in the 58th minute, assisted by
Eric Fast (Eagan, Minn./Homeschool) and
Micah Mogler (Mendota Heights, Minn./LCA). With no more goals that half, the Eagles took the 3-1 victory over North Central.
Defensively,
Turner Main (Kewauee, Wis./Kewaunee) added three saves tonight, compared to Andrew Eliason's eight for the Rams. The Eagles had seven more shots on goal than the visitors with eleven for the night.
Northwestern (3-9-1 Overall, 3-3-1 UMAC) will host Martin Luther College at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. and the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday at 4 p.m.
