MORRIS, Minn. – The Northwestern College baseball team took its aggression from not being able to play games throughout the last three weeks out on the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday afternoon, winning both games of a rescheduled twin bill in 14-7 and 13-1 fashion. The Eagles will now head south for another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader against Martin Luther College on Saturday.

Game 2 Box Score
Northwestern scored four or more runs in three of the nine innings of Game 1. Despite a five-run sixth inning for the host-Cougars, NWC never trailed. Both
Cody Durkee (Wilton, N.D./Wilton) and
Zach Markwith (Honolulu, Hawaii/St. Louis) put up four runs batted in apiece as the Eagles out-hit Morris 18-10.
Even with 14 runs scored, NWC still left the same number of runners on base, partially due to three double plays turned by the Cougars.
Josh Balzer (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) earned his first win of the year on the mound, going five and one-third innings allowing six hits.
Matt Doss (Pillager, Minn./Pillager) then came in for the final three innings and change, shutting out the 16 Morris batters he faced.
Northwestern put together the near-perfect combination of pitching and offense for the second game of the day.
Andy Peterson (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) allowed four hits over seven innings while the one run that was scored went in the books unearned. Northwestern went into the top of the fourth inning with the score tied at 0-0. However, that score changed quickly in the Eagles' at-bat as NWC put up a monstrous 12 runs in that frame alone. 13 Northwestern batters had seen time in the box before Morris was able to record its first out of the inning, but 10 runs had crossed home plate in that span.
Morris's lone run came across in the sixth, but the Cougars offense was unable to avoid a 10-run rule after seven innings as Peterson was lights out on the hill.
Six different Eagles recorded multi-hit games in the lopsided finish including
Bryan McCallum (Rogers, Minn./Rogers),
Cody Kielsa (Howard Lake, Minn./Rogers) and
Bryan McCallum (Rogers, Minn./Rogers). Markwith, who also produced two hits in the second contest, had assumed second place on the NWC all-time career hits list by the end of the day. Now boasting 173 career hits, Markwith is 16 shy of tying Ryan Long's record of 189 hits.
Markwith and the rest of his Eagles teammates will have a chance to add more hits to their season resume on Saturday afternoon as Northwestern heads south to New Ulm, Minn. to face off against Martin Luther for a doubleheader at Mueller Park. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
