Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS – The Northwestern College and Crown College men's soccer teams entered Saturday's contest tied for third place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). After 110 minutes of play and a 1-1 score, the third place tie remains. Northwestern outshot the host team 25-11 but was unable to muster up more than one goal in the double overtime game.
Crown got on the scoreboard just 6:25 into the first period off a Truman Shetler shot. The Eagles went on to post nine shots before the buzzer sounded at the end of the half, but Crown was able to fend off the offensive attacks and maintain their 1-0 lead.
NWC was able to find a hole in the Storm defense at the 65:51 mark of the second period, as
Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) dished out an assist to
Garmina Paygah-Fangiah (Monrovia, Liberia/Coon Rapids ) who executed on the pass, earning the freshman his third goal of the season. Either team was unable to get on the board again, forcing extra time at the end of regulation.
In the first overtime, the Eagles tallied four shots in comparison to Crown's one, but the score remained tied at 1-1, sending the game into extra time yet again.
Northwestern continued to press into Crown's defense early in the second overtime period, resulting in three shots, but none of the Eagle offensive attacks ended in goal, resulting in NWC's first tie of the 2012 campaign.
The Purple and Gold (5-4-1 overall, 3-2-1 UMAC) will hit the game field again on Tuesday as it plays host to Augsburg College in a 4 p.m. afternoon matchup at Reynolds Field. Both
