Timely goal gives Eagles 1-0 advantage over Hamline

Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second time this season, a second-half goal by Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) has lifted the Northwestern College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent. The Eagles defeated Hamline University on Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field, increasing the team's win streak to four games.

Both teams entered halftime scoreless after they each tallied four shots in the first 45 minutes of play. In the second half, the scoring drought continued until Mann converted a Jerome Horton (Monrovia, Liberia/St. Paul Central) pass into a scoring opportunity, giving the Eagles their one and only lead of the game. The goal, Mann's sixth of the season and fifth in the past three games, came with just eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Eagles have not lost a 2012 game in which Mann has scored.

Offensively, the Purple and Gold outshot their opponent 7-5, including 5-2 on goal. On the defensive end of the field, Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) posted his second shutout of this year's campaign while earning two saves.

NWC (5-2-0 overall, 2-0 conference) has a quick day off before it plays host to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent Northland College. The Lumberjacks currently hold a record of 0-7, including 0-2 in conference action. The men's game will immediately follow the women's 2 p.m. contest, with kickoff time set for 4:30 p.m. Both video and live statistics for Thursday's game can be found here and here.
