Volleyball wins third straight in 3-0 sweep of Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. – The Northwestern College volleyball team won its third consecutive match on Saturday, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18) in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matinee contest.

Northwestern had one of its better hitting matches of the year, returning home with a .306 mark. The Eagles' best set was easily their first of the day, when NWC put down 19 kills on 34 attempts to post a .412 rate.

The Purple and Gold more than doubled up the Vikings in kills (47-20), while owning a 51-28 advantage in digs.

Less than 24 hours after posting 22 kills against Martin Luther College on Friday night, Kendra Korporal (Sumner, Iowa /Sumner-Fredericksburg) returned for another big day on Saturday, leading Northwestern with 16 and a .500 personal attacking percentage. Lizzy Potratz (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian ) followed close behind with 11 kills, while Lexi Bertsch (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) tallied 17 digs to pace the Eagles.

Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was looking like her usual self on Viking Court, earning credit for 38 of NWC's 45 assists.

Play by play statistics were not immediately available from Saturday's match.

The win moves Northwestern to a 17-8 overall record, with the Eagles improving to 8-1 in UMAC play, keeping NWC tied atop the conference standings with the College of St. Scholastica. The Eagles will get a chance to face off against the Saints for the second time this season next Saturday, but not before a midweek non-conference match against Gustavus Adolphus College and a Friday UMAC contest versus Northland College. Northwestern will head to St. Peter on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. bout.
