Box Score ST. PAUL – Northwestern College picked up its first win of the 2011 season, defeating North Central University 4-0 at Reynolds Field. All four Eagles goals came in the first half by different players.

Blake Brackett (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) started things off with a goal in the 21st minute. Brackett snuck a shot past North Central goalkeeper Matt Huberty from 10 yards out on the extreme right side with an assist from
Sam Diatta (Ziguinchor, Senegal/St. Paul Central) (Ziguinchor, Senegal / St. Paul Central).
Edgar Renteria (Mexico City, Mexico/Brooklyn Center) (Mexico City, Minn./Brooklyn Center) and
Josh Franzen (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) teamed up for a pair of goals within four minutes of one another at the 28:30 and 31:58 marks. Renteria got past his man to put a chip shot in from five yards out before Franzen took a rebound off of the cross bar and found the back of the net.
Jerome Horton (Monrovia, Liberia/St. Paul Central) (Monrovia, Liberia / St. Paul Central) capped off Northwestern's scoring in the 39th minute, earning an unassisted goal after a rebound.
The Eagles controlled the ball for most of the game, which was evidenced by their 16-4 advantage in shots throughout the 90 minutes of action. Eight of Northwestern's shots were on goal.
Eric Bocan (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) and
Shane Coleman (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) (Wyoming, Minn./Homeschool) shared time in between the posts for Northwestern to collectively earn the shutout. Bocan had three saves in 74 minutes of work.
Northwestern heads into Friday's UMAC opener versus the University of Minnesota Morris with a 1-4 record. The Eagles and Cougars will play at Mounds View High School at 5 p.m.
