Eagles rebound to beat Bethel in nightcap

Box Score ST. PAUL -- Northwestern College rebounded from a 3-2 loss to UW-Oshkosh earlier on Thursday afternoon to defeat local rival Bethel University 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) in the nightcap, earning NWC its first win of the 2011 season. The Eagles fed off of the loud home crowd to post comebacks in all three sets while maintaining a team attacking percentage of .208.

Seniors Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) led the way for Northwestern as each tallied 10 kills. King had a successful night hitting with a personal attacking percentage of .286 while freshman Cari Miller (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) (Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) had six kills on 15 attempts.

Krista Stoltz (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) recorded 29 assists to cap the team's first day of competition at the ACR Homes Volleyball Opener while Lexi Bertsch (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) led the way with a match-high 13 digs.

Northwestern, now 1-1 on the young season, will get a quick night's rest before hitting the court on Friday, September 2. The Eagles are scheduled to face Wisconsin Lutheran College at 3:15 p.m. and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at 5:30 p.m. Both matches will be held in the Ericksen Center.
