Baseball lives to see another day at UMAC Tournament

DULUTH, Minn. -- After posting a near-comeback versus the No. 6 team in the country in the College of St. Scholastica, the Northwestern College baseball team extended its season by at least one more day on Thursday night with a 5-4 victory over Presentation College at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Andy Peterson (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) pitched eight and one-third innings to get the win for the Eagles against third-seeded Presentation, who will exit the tournament after losing their second game in the double elimination event.  NWC scored all five of their runs between the third and fourth innings and Peterson and the defense did the rest, holding off the Saints, who had two runners on base - one of which was on scoring position - when the game ended.  Tyler Campion (Robbinsdale, Minn./Maranatha Christian) (Robbinsdale, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) worked out of a jam, forcing a game-ending double play to earn the save.

Austin Adamson (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) was one of three Northwestern players to record two hits in the game. The freshman also had two RBI and a run scored to his name against Presentation.

Versus St. Scholastica, Northwestern came within a double to tying the game as the Eagles had the equalizing run on first base as the ninth inning.  Down 11-6 to start the frame, NWC strung three hits and a walk together to score three runs.

The Eagles will return to the stadium on Friday for a 1 p.m. game and will either play Bethany Lutheran College or St. Scholastica (whichever team loses Thursday's 7 p.m. contest).
