ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped by Presentation College on Friday as the Saints rallied for a pair of comebacks at Reynolds Field in 4-2 and 3-1 fashion.

In the first game, Presentation broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh inning to break the Eagles' five-game winning streak. The Saints had posted one a run in each of the first and third frames before Northwestern strung together some clutch hitting in the bottom of the sixth to pull even for the time being. With runners on second and third and two outs, Austin Adamson (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) hit a single up the middle to score Josh Markwith (Honolulu, HI/Kalani) (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani) and Brady Erickson (Chisholm, Minn./Chisholm) (Chisholm, Minn./Chisholm).

Both of Presentation's two runs in the next half-inning came with two outs and forced NWC pitcher Mark Meredith (Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong) to take the loss. The junior gave up six hits and a pair of earned runs while striking out seven in seven innings.

Northwestern's Josh Balzer (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) pitched a gem for almost the entire game, forcing zeros up on Presentation's side of the board. The Eagles took a slim 1-0 lead in the sixth inning when Zach Markwith (Honolulu, Hawaii/St. Louis) (Honolulu, Hawaii/St. Louis) hit a run-scoring single as Adamson touched home plate. With two runners on base, Balzer (1-2) was one hurl away from earning a shutout. Instead, the Saints' Justin Kline sent a 3-2 pitch into the outfield, bringing in Sam Heintzma to tie the game. One batter later, Shane Cunnin singled for Presentation, scoring two runs to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage.

The visiting team's lead stuck, as Northwestern wasn't able to string any hits together in the bottom of the final inning.

Zach Markwith (Honolulu, Hawaii/St. Louis) was one of the Eagles' better performers at the plate on Friday, tallying two hits in both games. Adamson recorded a pair of RBI in the first game, starting both contests at third base.

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles try to salvage the third game of the weekend series. Tomorrow's first pitch is scheduled for 12 Noon.
