Men's Soccer notches fourth win in 4-0 stomp of Northland

Box Score ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team earned its fourth victory of the year in a 4-0 win over Northland College on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Eagles earned their third shutout of the week after having tied Bethel University and College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday and Friday.

NWC's Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) returned to the pitch to score the Eagles' first goal of the day in the 38th minute, giving the home team a 1-0 halftime lead.  Edgar Renteria (Mexico City, Mexico/Brooklyn Center) (Mexico City, Mexico/Brooklyn Center) and Evan Grandlich (Milwaukee, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) (Milwaukee, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) then teamed up to score back-to-back goals in the 71st and 75th minutes to make the score 3-0 in Northwestern's favor.  Mafu Abel (Curitiba, Brazil/Hillcrest) (Curitiba, Brazil/Hillcrest) then wrapped up the day's scoring with a goal in the 82nd minute.

Stephen Ricks (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) (Blaine, Minn./Blaine), Renteria and David Jacobson (New Brighton, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) (New Brighton, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) all earned assists on the day as NWC out-shot Northland by a whopping 29-2 count. 17 of the Eagles' shots were on goal and goalkeeper Eric Bocan (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Anoka, Minn./Meadow Creek)  didn't have to make a save to earn his third shutout of the week.

Now 4-5-2 overall on the season and 3-1-1 in UMAC action, Northwestern will get one day of practice in before heading south to take on Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. on Tuesday, October 4 at 4 p.m.
