ABERDEEN, S.D. -- A long bus trip home got even longer after the Northwestern College women's basketball team suffered an 82-50 loss at the hands of Presentation College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were slow out of the gate for the second consecutive game while the Saints' Nicky Rausch went off to lead the home team to a lopsided victory.
NWC, who yielded 13 points to Minnesota-Morris before producing any baskets the night before, didn't wait as long to find the hoop, when
Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) drained a three-pointer just 90 seconds into the game. Presentation didn't take long to control the game though, as the Saints went on a 16-1 run midway through the first period to lead 21-6.
After holding a 14-point edge at halftime, Presentation soon found itself leading by 22 after scoring the first seven points of the second period. It was all downhill after that for NWC, as the Saints led by as much as 33 before settling on the 82-50 final score.
Northwestern finished 18-52 in the game despite out-rebounding their opponents. Presentation took advantage of the Eagles' mistakes though, scoring 27 points off of 25 NWC turnovers amidst making nearly 50 percent of its shots. As a team, the Saints were 12-23 from beyond the three-point arc. Rausch had much to do with that mark, making six three-pointers en route to a 24-point performance.
Mollie Sir (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) finished with a team-best 15 points while
Allison Johnson (Plymouth, Minn./Heritage Christian) (Greenfield, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy), followed with 10. DeWitt, who did not play on Friday due to injury, saw limited action on Saturday, scoring six points in 17 minutes.
Northwestern will return to the court this week in hopes of putting an end to the team's current two-game losing streak. The Eagles will have the opportunity to return to the win column on Friday evening, when they host Northland College in the Ericksen Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
