MINNEAPOLIS -- Day 2 of the Augsburg College Invitational went a lot better for the Northwestern College volleyball team than the previous day, as the Eagles picked up a pair of victories over Macalester and Augsburg Colleges. Northwestern wrapped up the weekend with a 4-6 overall record in 2010.

Against Macalester, the Eagles quickly took care of the Scots, winning 25-12, 25-16, 25-12. Northwestern hit .209 to go with 32 kills in the match, while Macalester struggled with a 0.-48 attacking mark and 12 kills. Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) paced the Egles with nine kills, as four NWC players recorded five or more kills in the match. Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) had little trouble commanding the Eagles offense as she had 27 of the team's 32 assists.

While holding the Scots to such a low attacking percentage, Northwestern's defense did well on both the block and digging the ball. Sandstrom had six blocks in the set, four of which were solo while Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) had a match-high 19 digs. Danielle Rhodes (Iowa City, Iowa/City) (Iowa City, Iowa/City) followed with 11 digs as the Eagles picked up their first win of the tournament.

Augsburg gave NWC more of a game but the Eagles continued their winning ways with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20) victory over the host-Auggies. Northwestern upped its offensive output from the Macalester contest, hitting a season-high .298. Speaking of offensive production, four Eagles recorded double-digit kills in the match, led by Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing)'s (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) 18. Koth, Sandstrom and Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) each hit over .300 in the match as well.

While Kostek successfully quarterbacked the team with 49 assists, Korporal and the defense did their part as well. Korporal led all players with 19 digs on the day, followed by Rhodes' 14. Following the tournament, Korporal was named to the event's all-tournament team.

The Eagles will take a few days off before playing in their third weekend tournament beginning next Friday, Sept. 17 at UW-Oshkosh. NWC will face Loras College and UW-Oshkosh on Friday, followed by an opponent to be determined on Saturday, Sept. 18.
