DULUTH, Minn. -- Day 2 of the UMAC Crossover Tournament went much better for Northwestern College after a 17-15 loss to the University of Minnesota-Morris caused the Eagles to regroup. NWC claimed 10-6 and 4-2 victories over Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College to finish with a 2-1 tournament record.

Against Bethany Lutheran, whom the Eagles had already beat twice this season, Northwestern posted 13 hits to score 10 runs while taking advantage of six Vikings errors. After holding an early 2-0 lead, the Eagles scored eight of their 10 runs for the game after the fourth inning.

After Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) and Jenna Ruby (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie) (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) recorded RBIs in the first inning, Rodgers worked hard to hold Bethany Lutheran scoreless through four innings. Briana Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) hit her fourth home run of the year in the fifth frame, scoring two runs. Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) and Ruby both scored in the inning to give NWC a 6-0 lead.

Bethany posted a late-inning comeback that fell short. After scoring one run in the fifth, the Vikings strung five hits together to score five runs in the sixth. Bethany's mistakes allowed Northwestern to pad its lead with three insurance runs in the top of the fifth frame. One more Eagles run in the seventh locked up a 10-6 win.

Rodgers went all seven innings for Northwestern in the pitcher's circle, allowing eight hits and striking out two. At the plate, the senior went 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Alyssa Borgstrom (Amery, Wis./Amery) (Amery, Wis./Amery) also had a three-hit game, scoring twice.

Ashley Olson (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) allowed just one earned run as the Eagles bested Martin Luther 4-2 in Northwestern's second game of the day. Olson, who struck out three in seven innings, got enough run support to earn her sixth victory of the year.

Northwestern scored first in the game as Abbey Eagen (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) doubled to right field in the second inning to score Ruby. After Martin Luther tied the game at one run apiece in the bottom half of the frame, the Eagles tacked on two more runs in the third inning. Kristie Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) earned an RBI on a single to left field. Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) followed with an RBI-single of her own, taking the lead back for NWC for good at 3-1. Each team scored another run late in the game, but the Eagles held on to win 4-2.

Bicket, both Rodgers sisters and Ruby recorded two hits in the game as the Eagles tallied 10 as a team.

After Day 2 of the tournament, Northwestern returned home with a 19-15 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference play. The Eagles will host St. Catherine University in a Monday nonconference doubleheader before wrapping up their UMAC schedule with a doubleheader against Martin Luther on Tuesday. Both games are at Reynolds Field.
