MENOMONIE, Wis. -- Northwestern College suffered 30 team turnovers on Tuesday night as the Eagles lost to the University of Wisconsin-Stout 72-49 on Tuesday night. While NWC kept even with the Blue Devils in rebounding, a 30 percent shooting performance hampered the Eagles' efforts to put points on the board while Stout countered with a 45 percent night.
Much like NWC's last game against UW-River Falls on Saturday, the Purple and Gold started slow again, trailing 17-6 nine minutes into the contest.
Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored the next six points to bring her team within five, but Stout's lead ballooned to 40-28 at halftime. DeWitt hit a three-pointer with 11:19 left in the game to minimize the Devils' one-time 14-point lead to eight. Not too long after, Stout went on a 10 point run to dash any hopes of an Eagles victory with Stout ultimately winning by 23.
Northwestern had three players score in double figures, including DeWitt, who finished with 22 points on 9-20 shooting.
Kristin Sczublewski (Pierz, Minn./Pierz) (Pierz, Minn./Pierz) scored 12 points in the loss, while
Megan Myhre (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) added 10 points and five rebounds. UW-Stout's Tricia VanVreede had a double-double, scoring 23 points to go with 11 rebounds to lead her team.
NWC, now 1-3 in 2009-10, will take a couple of days off before returning to the court this weekend at a tournament at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. The Eagles will play LaCrosse on Saturday at 7 p.m. before facing Luther College in a rare Sunday matchup at 1 p.m.
