ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 game to the University of Minnesota, Morris on Friday, evening the season score between the two teams after the Eagles earned a 1-0 victory over the Cougars on Sept. 18.
Matt Vik was the lone goal-scorer in the game as his shot from five yards out went into the net in the 62nd minute after receiving a pass from Dustin Lee. The Cougars had Northwestern goalkeeper
Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Morraine) tied up in the field to the left of the net. Once Lee and Minnesota-Morris gained control of the ball with an open net, the Cougars didn't take long to take the lead.
Niedermayer had two saves in the game for NWC as the Eagles out-shot their opponents 7-4 and owned a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) nearly missed scoring his sixth goal of the year as his late-game shot from 30 yards away caromed off the top of the cross bar.
The Eagles, now 7-7-2 on the year (6-3-1 UMAC), will gear up for their Saturday afternoon game against Presentation College. Northwestern will host the Saints in a 12 p.m. matchup at Reynolds Field.
