Too little, too late for men's soccer against Bethany Lutheran

Box Score

MANKATO, Minn.—After going unbeaten in its last four games, the Northwestern College men's soccer team took a blow on Saturday afternoon, losing to Bethany Lutheran College 2-1. The Eagles struggled to capitalize on offense throughout the entire 90 minutes and were only able to get a goal past the Vikings in the game's final minutes.

Bethany Lutheran's CK Pock scored his team's first goal of the game in the 19th minute, ultimately allowing the Vikings to go into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Evans Tackie-Yarboi added what would prove to be a needed insurance goal at the 55:45 mark after taking a pass from Josh Jensen, who also assisted Pock's score.

Northwestern finally got on the board in the 88th minute when Joel Ottley (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) found the back of the net with an assist from Ben Fast (Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley). Time ran out on the Eagles though, and Bethany Lutheran held a 2-1 advantage when the final whistle blew.

The two teams were fairly even in the shots category with Northwestern edging the Vikings 12-11. The Eagles weren't able to maximize their opportunities from the corner, where NWC had nine kicks compared to BLC's three.

Northwestern, who stands at 7-6-2 overall (6-2-1 UMAC) will return home for a week of practice before hosting the University of Minnesota, Morris and Presentation College next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23. The Cougars from Minnesota, Morris will be the Eagles' first opponent as the two teams square off at Reynolds Field on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
