Second half goals give Eagles 2-0 edge over Crown

Box Score

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- A pair of goals in the second half of Tuesday's game at Crown College gave Northwestern a final 2-0 nod.  The win improved the Eagles' record to 6-5-2 overall and 5-1-1 in UMAC play.

Blake Brackett (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) got NWC on the board in the game's 60th minute, as the sophomore took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity.  17 minutes later, Sam Mann (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Central) (St. Paul, Minn./Central) added an insurance goal for the Eagles as his shot, which was assisted by Kellen Arey (Ham Lake, Minn./Concordia Academy) (Ham Lake, Minn./Concordia Academy), beat Crown's Mark Jensen to put Northwestern up 2-0.

Despite being out-shot 21-15 by Crown, the Eagles recorded more shots on goal in the game.  Josh Niedermayer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Morraine), fresh off of being named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, tallied six saves for his fourth shutout of the 2010 season.  On the other side of the field, Jensen had five saves to go with the two goals allowed.

NWC will take a couple of days off before traveling south for the weekend.  The Eagles will face Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. at 1:30 p.m. on Friday before squaring off against Bethany Lutheran College at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Mankato, Minn.
