Eagles win fourth straight in 72-64 win over Presentation

Box Score

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College women's basketball team used a 14-2 run to start the second half to beat Presentation College 72-64. Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) poured in 30 or more points for the second straight conference affair, and the Eagles outscored the Saints 19-8 in points off of turnovers en route to their fourth straight victory and ninth overall win of the season.

NWC played from behind early in the game until taking the lead for good with 3:28 to play in the first half after DeWitt drained a jumper in the paint. Tanya Dickey (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) hit a shot from downtown with 1:20 left in the half to give the Eagles a 32-28 halftime lead.

DeWitt, Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) and Kelsey Kosman (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) combined to lead NWC's scoring spree early in the second half, boosting the Eagles lead to as much as 16 points. Presentation's Chelsey Stanley made three straight three-point shots down the stretch to cut Northwestern's lead to seven. Made free throws by Dickey and Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) kept the Saints at bay though, and the Eagles cruised to an eight-point victory.

DeWitt, the UMAC's leading scorer with an average of 24.2 points per game, netted her third 30-points-or-better performance of the 2009-10 campaign. The senior made 13 of her 23 attempts while grabbing 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. DeWitt also had four assists and a pair of steals and blocks in the game.

Megan Myhre (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) (Barnum, Minn./Barnum) contributed 10 points on 5-8 shooting to go with six boards while Liesch finished the game with eight rebounds. As a team, Northwestern shot 45 percent from the field while Presentation made half of its 48 attempts in the game.

The Eagles (9-6, 5-1 UMAC) will return to action in less than 24 hours when they host the Cougars from the University of Minnesota, Morris on Saturday afternoon. Northwestern and Morris currently share second place in the conference standings and Saturday's Hoops Hysteria game will end the weekend with just one team in second. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Ericksen Center.
