ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team struggled to keep up with St. Olaf College on Friday afternoon, losing to the Oles 4-0 at Reynolds Field. The Eagles kick off a stretch that will include four games in five days with a loss, and will look to avenge it against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon.
Phil Kennedy kicked off St. Olaf's scoring spree, scoring an unassisted goal at the 17:12 mark. Nathan Swanson and John Zietlow each scored for the Oles before the first half ended, putting the Eagles back 3-0 at halftime. A goal by Logan Rathjen midway through the second half was more than enough insurance for St. Olaf, as the visitors cruised to a victory in their first game of the season.
Northwestern was outshot 22-3 and bested 11-2 in corner kicks as well.
The Eagles (0-2, 0-0 UMAC) will play again in less than 24 hours when they face UW-Superior at 1 p.m. on Saturday. That game is part of a two-contest tournament hosted by Bethel University in Arden Hills. NWC will face Bethel in a 4 p.m. bout on Monday, Sep. 7.
