MORRIS, Minn. – The Northwestern College baseball team won its third consecutive game on Friday, handing the University of Minnesota, Morris a 26-2 lopsided loss. With the win, the Eagles maintain their fourth place position in the UMAC standings as league play wraps up this weekend.
A leadoff home run by Ryan Long (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) started things off on the right foot for Northwestern before the Eagles scored 22 runs throughout the fifth, sixth and seventh innings en route to the rout.
An Erik Dahl (Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) (Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) two-run home run sparked the Eagles' offense that scored six runs in the fifth before the junior went yard again in the sixth inning. Dahl was one of four NWC players to tally three or more hits and four or more RBI on the day.
Ryan Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) started the game from the pitcher's mound for Northwestern, giving up two runs on seven hits. Scott Swanson (Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) (Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) wrapped up the final three innings, striking out three of the 12 batters he faced.
Long, Mike Sharpe (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and Tyler Sage (Duncanville, Texas/Ovilla Christian) (Duncanville, Texas/Olivia Christian) all joined Dahl in the Four-Or-More RBI Club as Northwestern outhit their opponents 27-10.
NWC, now 17-19 overall and 10-9 in UMAC play, will play Minnesota, Morris again in a Saturday doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 12 p.m.
