Softball sweeps DH with North Central

ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College softball team won both games in its doubleheader against North Central University on Friday afternoon, claiming a pair of 10-2 victories. Both games were finished in five innings, as the Eagles posted ten or more hits in both affairs.

Jenny Kortus (Milaca, Minn./Milaca) (Milaca, Minn./Milaca), Leighana Nyquist (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran), Cindy Frisch (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg), Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) and Kelsey Hanson (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) all turned in 2-3 performances at the plate in one of the two games, as each Eagle recorded a start on the day. Korthus, Rodgers, Abbey Eagan (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake), Ashley Weimer (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) (Hill City, Minn./Hill City), Shelly MacKinnon (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) (Palantine, Ill./Friend), and Kristie Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) all had two or more RBI on the day.

Hanson yielded three hits and two runs in her efforts from the pitching circle in Game 1, while Rodgers struck out five batters while allowing no earned runs.

Northwestern (5-13) will be back in action on Saturday, playing another “bump-up” doubleheader which was originally scheduled for next week. The Eagles will host Northland College in UMAC action, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at Reynolds Field.
