ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College baseball team pushed its winning streak to four games after a doubleheader sweep of UMAC opponent Northland College on Friday afternoon. The Eagles had their game running on all cylinders on both offense and defense, which was reflected by the 6-3 and 16-4 scores.

After recording seven RBI on three home runs a day earlier, Erik Dahl (Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) (Robbinsdale, Minn./Armsrong) was at it again, going a combined 5-7 with four RBI and two runs scored. Dahl, a junior, as found his swing as of late, improving his batting average to .319 from its March 10 status of .190.

Pitcher Ryan Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) received enough run support in the first game to record his first win of the year. Dan Halstensgard (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony) (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony) hit a home run in his first at-bat to help his 2-3 performance at the plate, while Zach Holsman (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) was 2-3.

Josh Englund (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) got the nod to start Game 2 on the hill, yielding three runs on five hits. Tyler Sage (Duncanville, Texas/Ovilla Christian) (Duncanville, Texas/Olivia Christian) helped Englund record Win No. 2 of 2009, going 2-4 with four RBI. Nelson, who moved to the outfield for the second contest, turned in a 2-3 record at the plate.

The Eagles three home runs on the day put their season total past all of 2008.  NWC has hit 12 home runs in 2009, while opponents have hit five.

Northwestern will hit the field again on Saturday, hoping to finish off a three-game sweep of Northland. The single game's first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
