ABERDEEN, S.D.—The Northwestern College softball team continued the UMAC conference cross-over tournament on Saturday as it was looking to better its place in the league standings. The Eagles finished their season series against Martin Luther College, resulting in a five-inning, 12-1 victory before going on to beat Bethany Lutheran College 3-0.

In Game 1, NWC's offense couldn't be stopped as the Eagles scored in every inning, starting with Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello)' (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) two-RBI single in the first inning, bringing in Lauren August (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran) (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran) and Ashley Weimer (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) (Hill City, Minn./Hill City). A repeat 2 RBI single in the second frame courtesy of Jenny Kortus (Milaca, Minn./Milaca) (Milaca, Minn./Milaca) allowed Weimer and Alyssa Borgstrom (Amery, Wis./Amery) (Amery, Wis./Amery) to put two more runs on the board. An RBI double by Rodgers gave the Eagles a 5-0 lead going into the third.

The lone score for the Knights came from back-to-back doubles in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third, every batter on the Northwestern lineup had an opportunity at the plate, ending with seven hits and six runs. Starting with a double was Kristie Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township), who crossed home plate on a Kelsey Hanson (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) single RBI. Following Hanson with three straight singles were Jessie Lokken (Goodland, Minn./Nashwauk-Keewatin), Borgstrom, and Weimer before August's two-RBI double and two RBI hits by Rodgers and Jenna Ruby (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie) (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie) gave the Eagles a 10-run lead.

Weimer posted a hit in the fourth, bringing in the lone run for NWC in that inning. The Eagles held Martin Luther in the fifth, resulting in a 12-1 victory.

On the mound for Northwestern was Kelsey Hanson (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis), who allowed one earned run while striking out two.

The Eagles had 15 total hits compared to Martin Luther's five, as all of NWC's nine batters had at least one hit on the day. Weimer and Rodgers had a perfect 3-3 performance at the plate, and grabbed two and four RBI respectively. Borgstrom was 2-3 offensively while August, Lokken, and Ruby all hit .500.

Game 2 for Northwestern was against Bethany Lutheran College, as the Eagles swept their weekend competition. The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and held the Vikings scoreless throughout to post a 3-0 win.

Weimer doubled in her first at bat and singled on an immediate RBI single from August. Kortus followed with a double of her own to score August before crossing the plate on another Eagles' RBI from Rodgers.

Ashley Olson (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) took care of the rest of the game from the pitcher's circle, allowing one hit while striking out four en route to the seven-inning shutout.

Weimer, August and Rodgers each collected two hits in the game as Northwestern tallied seven as a team.

The Eagles will take one day off before playing on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Monday will feature a nonconference game between NWC and St. Kate's in St. Paul (3 p.m. start) before the Eagles play three games against Presentation College beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
