Eagles fall in nonconference affair with St. Kate's

ST. PAUL – Northwestern struggled to get hits in a nonconference game against the College of St. Catherine, resulting in a 7-3 loss on Monday afternoon.

St. Kate's built up a 3-0 lead before Northwestern could respond with three runs in the third inning. Ashley Weimer (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) and Lauren August (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran) (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran) each collected RBI hits as Jessie Lokken (Goodland, Minn./Nashwauk-Keewatin), Weimer and Alyssa Borgstrom (Amery, Wis./Amery) (Amery, Wis./Amery) all scored.

After scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third frame, St. Kate's put up a three-spot in the fifth inning, dooming the Eagles' chances for a victory. After a leadoff home run to start the inning, the Wildcats tallied five more hits to produce an eventual 7-3 win.

Kelsey Hanson (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) pitched all six innings in the Eagles' loss, giving up seven runs on 15 hits.

At the plate, Northwestern collected six hits, two of which came from Borgstrom's bat in a 2-3 performance.

NWC will wrap up its final home stand on Tuesday with a tripleheader against Presentation College. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
