Women's Hoops wraps up 2008-09 season

DEERFIELD, Ill. (March 7, 2009)-- The Northwestern College women's basketball team closed out its season taking a final loss to Trinity International, 53-59, in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) region tournament.

NWC had the higher field goal percentage in both halves going 42.6 percent in the competition compared to the Trojan's 34.4 percent. The clear difference was found in free throws, as NWC went 2-11 while Trinity took 12 of its 23. At the end of the first half Northwestern trailed by only five points with a score of 23-28 before the Trojans ended NWC's season with a 53-59 defeat.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was once again the team's lone player in double digits, posting a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Weddig (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) (Merrill, Wis./Merrill), who sunk 6 of her 10 field goal attempts, added 12 points to the board along with Ariel Leisch's (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) 10.

Reanna Perera and Melanie Duplessis added 22 points and 19 points for Trinity (20-15).

The Eagles ended the 2009 season with a winning record of 15-14 overall and 11-3 in UMAC play.
