Kenyon bests Eagles

By Kristie Bicket

FORT PIERCE, Fla.—The Northwestern baseball team took its sixth loss of the season from Kenyon College, 6-14.

Allowing the Lords to bring in one runner in the top of the first gave the Eagles the determination they needed as they answered with three runs of their own in the bottom. After walking two of NWC's runners, an error on the pitcher allowed both of those basemen to cross the plate safely. Mike Stickland's double RBI gave the Eagle's a 3-1 lead going into the second.

A big inning in the third for Kenyon allowed them to take a 4-3 lead with five hits. The next inning was kept alive with two NWC runners on base, two outs, as Ryan Long (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) hit a 2 RBI single to right center, making it a tied game, 5-5.

The Lords took the momentum and ran with it as they had scoring innings four out of the five left in the game. The Eagles couldn't find its bat as Ryan Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) was the lone RBI hit in the seventh before taking a 6-14 loss.

The Eagles only had five hits as a team, with Long hitting 2-4 and 2 RBI.

Andrew Stokes (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) pitched 5 innings, giving up seven earned runs and striking out two batters while Zach Holsman (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) and Paul Foster (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) pitched two innings a piece, giving up three earned runs each.
