ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. — The Northwestern College softball team ended its three-game losing streak as the Eagles beat Crown College in two five-inning games by scores of 8-0 and 18-1.

The first two innings of Game 1 contained only a single hit be each team which resulted in no runs before the Eagles put their first numbers on the board in the third. Starting the four-hit inning was Alyssa Borgstrom (Amery, Wis./Amery) (Amery, Wis./Amery) with a double and Lauren August (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran)'s (Maple Plain, Minn./West Lutheran) RBI- triple, which turned into a four-base hit due to a Storm error.

NWC's bats came alive in the fifth frame as RBI hits from August, Jenny Kortus (Milaca, Minn./Milaca) (Milaca, Minn./Milaca) and Shelly MacKinnon (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) allowed the Eagles to bring six more runs across the plate. Owning an 8-0 lead, the Eagles held Crown in the bottom of the fifth, finishing the game with eight hits. The Storm ended with two hits and five errors.

August grabbed two of the team's RBI and went 3-3 offensively, while Kortus went 2-3.  On the mound for Northwestern was Ashley Olson (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd), who yielded zero runs on two hits while posting five strikeouts.

The Eagles kept their engines running in Game 2, as every batter in the lineup had a hit and crossed the plate in the first inning, finishing with 11 hits and a strong 10-run lead. After three quick outs in the bottom of the frame, NWC had four more hits, producing five runs in the second inning to increase the visiting team's lead to 15-0.

Crown's lone run on the day was a result of three walks and a single in the bottom of the second. The Eagles had two scoreless innings before sealing the deal in the fifth with three more runs and an 18-1 victory.

Contributing to NWC's 19 hits in the game was August with four and Ashley Weimer (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) (Hill City, Minn./Hill City) with three.  August and Kristie Bicket (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) posted three RBI each while Weimer and Amanda Rodgers (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) took two apiece.  Once again, the Eagles only had one error to the Storm's eight, while NWC finished the game with seven runners left on base to Crown's nine. On the mound for Northwestern was Rodgers, who struck out seven batters en route to receiving the win.

Northwestern, who is currently fourth in the UMAC standings at 5-4, will need to continue their pace from Wednesday if the team is to have any chance of retaining its league title.  The Eagles head to New Ulm, Minn. on Friday, April 17 to compete in a double-header against Martin Luther College at 3 p.m. Another twin bill against Bethany Lutheran the next day will give the Eagles yet another chance to better their record.   Those games begin at 11 a.m. in Mankato, Minn.
