Box Score

ST. PAUL –
An Eagles' win was extra special for a numerous reasons on Tuesday night, as Northwestern College advanced to the semifinal round of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) postseason tournament after defeating Presentation College 75-58. Northwestern also celebrated with its head coach, as Linda Schuck earned her 200th career victory as the Eagles head coach.

Northwestern scored 42 points in the first half alone after making nearly 58 percent of its attempts. The Eagles' stroke was especially on from long range, as six of the team's three-point shots found the bottom of the basket. After a tie at 8-8, Northwestern went on a 8-2 run to lead 16-10 with 11:20 to play in the first half. The Eagles extended their lead to double digits five minutes later, as Allison Weld (Greenfield, Minn./Heritage Christian) and Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) made back-to-back baskets. As the first half clock ran out, NWC ran into the locker room with a 42-29 lead.

NWC maintained its lead throughout the second half, peaking at an 18-point advantage with 16:19 remaining in the game. Presentation was able to minimize the Eagles' lead to 13 a couple minutes later, but Northwestern wouldn't have much of it, as they kept the Saints at bay until the final score read 75-58.

Thanks much in part to its first half performance, Northwestern shot 52 percent from the field for the game. The Eagles had their best three-point percentage of the season at the right time, making 10 of their 19 attempts for a 53 percent rate.

Luanne Mullet (Lustre, Mont./Lustre Christian) (Lustre, Mont./Lustre Christian) had the game's hot hand, making all five of her attempts from downtown to lead Northwestern with 15 points. The senior point guard added five assists in what could be the final home game of her career.  Ashley Filipi (Fertile, Minn./Ada-Bourp) (Fertile, Minn./Ada-Borup) also caught fire in the game, going 5 of 7 and 2-for-2 from behind the three-point arc.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had yet another double-double, scoring 13 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. The sophomore has 10 double-doubles in 2008-09.

Sara Gregersen did her best to push Presentation, finishing with a game-high 24 points. Meghan Schmidt added 11 points, but it wasn't enough as the Saints finished their season at 8-18 overall.

Schuck is the second of all Northwestern current head coaches to reach the 200-win plateau. Already the winningest coach, Schuck has a combined record of 200-150 (.571).

Northwestern (14-12, 11-3 UMAC), who has won its last four games and eight of the last nine, will travel northwest on Thursday, when the Eagles play the University of Minnesota, Morris. Tip-off for the tournament's semifinal game is set for 7:30 p.m.
