Box Score

ST. PAUL -- After a shaky start, the Northwestern College volleyball team showed why it was the regular season conference champion and the No. 1 seed in the UMAC Postseason Tournament, defeating the University of Minnesota, Morris 3-1 on Tuesday evening. While it wasn't the Eagles' best match of the season, they outlasted the Cougars 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-20.

Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) dominated when she was on the court, finishing the night with 18 kills to lead Northwestern. Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) silently added nine more kills, as Northwestern held a slim 47-44 kills advantage over Morris on the night. As a team, Northwestern posted a .192 attacking percentage, thanks much in part to the setting of Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) (21 assists) and Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (19 assists).

Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg) paced the Eagles on defense with a match-high 23 digs while Danielle Rhodes (Iowa City, Iowa/City) (Iowa City, Iowa/City) chipped in 11. Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) came up big on the block, leading the squad with six of the team's 10.5 blocks. Slagter, Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) and Koth all had their hands in four blocks as well.

Megan Theis had 11 kills to lead fourth-seeded Minnesota-Morris, who hit .072 in the match.

Northwestern, who improves to 22-10 (14-0 UMAC) with the win, will host the College of St. Scholastica in the tournament championship on Saturday, November 7 at 7 p.m. in the Ericksen Center. The second-seeded Saints beat Northland College in four sets on Tuesday night.
