DULUTH, Minn. -- The Northwestern College volleyball team swept its UMAC competition for the second year in a row, as a 3-0 win over the College of St. Scholastica gave the Eagles another 14-0 conference record to go with their third consecutive league championship. In the last three years, NWC is 41-1 in UMAC contests.

Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) had a 16-kill performance against St. Scholastica, successfully finding hard wood on 42 of her attempts in the match. Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton), who was as close to home as she's going to get on a college volleyball court, added 10 kills as the Eagles won 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 over their conference rivals.

Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) had 23 assists for Northwestern, who hit .209 as a team. Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg) led all players with 23 digs in the match. Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) helped the Eagles on defense, getting a hand in five of the Eagles eight team blocks.

After beating up on St. Scholastica, Northwestern wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 3-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. With Steph Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Korporal sitting out to rest, NWC won 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-10.

Once again, the Eagles came up big on defense, holding the Pointers to a .060 hitting percentage while tallying 12 team blocks in the match. Northwestern responded with a .168 attacking percentage of its own. Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) had 20 of NWC's 45 kills in the match, being the first person to reach that benchmark this season.

Whitmore one-upped herself from the previous match, adding six blocks while Sandstrom had six as well. Teammate Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) had five blocks in the win.

Northwestern concludes its regular season with a 21-10 record. The Eagles will host the University of Minnesota-Morris in the opening round of the UMAC tournament on Tuesday, when the two teams battle it out at 7 p.m. in the Ericksen Center. The winner of that match will play the winner of Northland College and St. Scholastica. NWC, the tournament's number one seed, would host Saturday's 7 p.m. match with a win on Tuesday.
