Eagles move to 10-0 in UMAC play with 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College volleyball team made quick work of Bethany Lutheran College on Friday night, sending the Vikings packing 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-19) in a match that lasted less than an hour. NWC posted a .306 attacking percentage and nine team blocks while holding the Vikings to .019 hitting and no blocks.

Northwestern posted a .476 attacking percentage in the second set as the Eagles handily took control of the match with a 25-6 set victory.

Greta King (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) led Northwestern's offensive attack, posting 10 of the team's 42 kills. Chelsea Koth (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Elissa Sandstrom (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) added nine and eight kills respectively to the Eagles' performance. At .444, Koth was one of three players in a Northwestern uniform to hit over .400 on the night.

Hillary Slagter (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian) and Leah Kostek (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian ) (West Des Moines, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) each posted 18 assists - just two less than Bethany's team total of 20. Kelsey Korporal (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredericksburg) (Sumner, Iowa/Sumner-Fredricksburg) led all players with 23 digs, while Sarah Whitmore (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake Christian) (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake Christian) and King each had their hands in four blocks.

Laura Holt led Bethany Lutheran (6-18, 3-7 UMAC) with eight kills. Nicole Jones had 17 assists.

With the win, Northwestern improves its still-undefeated UMAC record to 10-0 (16-9 overall). The Eagles will have an opportunity to inch closer to at least a share of a third straight conference championship on Saturday when they host Martin Luther College. NWC currently leads second-place Northland by two matches. Saturday's match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in the Ericksen Center.
