Men's Soccer returns to win column with 5-0 victory over Martin Luther

ST. PAUL -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team returned to its winning ways on Friday as the Eagles picked up a UMAC victory over Martin Luther College. Sam Mann (St. Paul, Minn./Central) (St. Paul, Minn./Central) recorded a hat trick as NWC won 5-0 on a muddy and wet Reynolds Field.

Mann Scored the Eagles first three goals of the game, the first two of which were unassisted. Mann's third goal came at the 32:27 mark, has he took a long pass from Jared Huston (Corcoran, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) (Corcoran, Minn./Heritage Christian Academy) from the left side before flicking the ball into the net to give Northwestern a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles added to their total in the second half, as Lucas Asmus (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) scored on Martin Luther's Alex Vandenberg in the 77th minute. Jonathan Blatchley (Ham Lake, MN/St. Francis High School) (Ham Lake, Minn./St. Francis), who assisted Asmus' goal, added an insurance goal of his own at 88:10 to finish the game's scoring at 5-0.

Northwestern didn't allow Martin Luther to get a shot off throughout the entire 90 minutes while tallying 12 of its own. Vandenberg had three saves for the Knights.

NWC will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 when the Eagles host Bethany Lutheran College. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. at Mounds View High School in Arden Hills, Minn. due to poor field conditions on Northwestern's home turf.
