Pair of freshmen lead NWC past Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. -- The Northwestern College men's soccer team won its second consecutive game on Friday, defeating Bethany Lutheran College 3-1. Freshman Sam Mann (St. Paul, Minn./Central) (St. Paul, Minn./Central) had two goals in the game for the Eagles.

Jeremy Stiner (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) scored his third goal of the 2009 season at the 14:50 mark, putting Northwestern up 1-0. Mann followed with a goal just before the halftime whistle, giving Northwestern a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.

Mann added an insurance goal in the game's 83rd minute to boost his season's total to three before Jacob Duppong slipped a shot past NWC goalkeeper Danny King (Willmar, MN/Willmar High School) (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) in the game's final three minutes to account for the 3-1 final score.

Northwestern outshot their counterparts 17-5 while owning a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

King had one save in the game for the Eagles.

Northwestern, now 3-7 on the season and 3-2 in UMAC play, will get some rest tonight before hitting the pitch again tomorrow afternoon when they play Martin Luther College. The game in New Ulm, Minn. is scheduled for 12 p.m. start.
