Shooting woes haunt Eagles in Iowa

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (Dec. 30, 2008) – The Northwestern College women's basketball team struggled to score points against Dordt College in the opening round of a holiday tournament hosted by Northwestern College of Iowa on Tuesday, falling to the Defenders 38-61.

No one on Northwestern's roster was able to find double-digit points, as the Eagles were only able to make 12 of their 48 shots on the afternoon for a 25 percent rate. Dordt, on the other hand, made 36 percent of its shots while committing half the number of turnovers that NWC had.

Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) led the Eagles with nine points, while Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) added seven points. Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was the team's leading rebounder with nine boards.

Kate Du Mez and Amber Soodsma had 16 and 14 points for Dordt.

Northwestern (2-9 overall) will play its counterpart from Iowa on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. matchup.
