Eagles easily overwhelm Crown, 64-26

ST. PAUL (Jan. 17, 2009) –
Northwestern College won its fourth game in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating Crown College 64-26 in the Ericksen Center. Eagles' head coach Linda Schuck received 24 points from her bench, including nine points from Allison Weld (Greenfield, Minn./Heritage Christian).
 
Crown, under first year head coach Matt Callahan, stayed close to Northwestern within the game's first five minutes. The Eagles took flight soon thereafter, leaving the Storm in the dust with an 18-0 run to lead 25-6 with 5:46 left in the first half before owning a 31-10 advantage at the break.

Northwestern continued to extend its lead to as much as 39 in the second half before settling at the 64-26 final, improving its UMAC record to 4-1.

In addition to the final score, the Eagles also owned advantages in overall shooting and rebounding, grabbing 15 more boards than their opponents.

Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) led all scorers with 20 points while adding 15 rebounds to record a double-double. Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) added 10 points for NWC while grabbing eight boards. Ariel Liesch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) chipped in nine points on 4 of 10 shooting.

Mary Devries had 10 points for Crown (1-9 overall, 0-5 UMAC), whose 26 points were scored by five players.

Northwestern improves its record to 5-10 overall with the win as the team prepares to make its annual western trek next weekend. The Eagles will play Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. on Friday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. before driving to Morris, Minn. for a Saturday matinee.
