ST. PAUL (Sep. 3, 2008) – Fans in attendance at Northwestern College's men's soccer game were holding their breath in the final minute of regulation, hoping their team could preserve a 2-1 victory over Hamline University. Hamline stole the show in the last 30 seconds though, as Drew Lukas's goal at 89:34 tied the game and gave the Pipers new life before the visitors scored the deciding goal in the second overtime period to steal a 3-2 victory.
After a scoreless battle in the game's first 30 minutes, Northwestern's
Michael Bliss (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) opened the scoring with a goal at 30:56. Bliss' goal stood as the only score through halftime, until Hamline's Moe Tageldin scored on a floater from ten yards out to tie the game at one goal apiece.
Matt Olson (St. Paul, Minn./Concordia Academy), Bliss' fellow freshman, broke the tie in the 61st minute, scoring on a corner kick by
Cory Swenson (Wausau, WI/Northland Lutheran High School) (Wausau, Wis./Northland Lutheran).

Just as the clock began ticking crucial seconds, Lukas came up big to tie the game at 2-2 with 26 seconds in regulation as the hometown crowd watched in disbelief. Lukas, who had scored Hamline's only goal entering Wednesday's game, struck again in the 103rd minute, winning the game for the Pipers on Matt Warhol's assist.
