19-0 start gives Northland win over Eagles

ASHLAND, Wis. (Dec. 6, 2008) – Northland College established themselves as the UMAC's frontrunner on Saturday, as they defeated Northwestern College 54-33 in a battle of the conference's preseason Nos. 1 and 2 teams. Northwestern was only able to score 12 points in the first half after Northland ran out to a 19-0 lead in the game's first 12 minutes.

Northwestern shot 27.1 percent from the floor while making only two of 11 shots from downtown. Katie DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) was the only NWC player in double figures, as the sophomore tallied 11 points. Kaelee Kendrick (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) (Eagan, Minn./Bethany Academy) was the team's leading rebounder with nine rebounds.

Northland (6-5, 2-0 UMAC) was led by Maria Mackey, who scored 12 points on four of eight shooting. Chelsea Lundgren added eight points and nine rebounds.

Northwestern, who falls to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in UMAC play, will return to the Ericksen Center for a game on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The University of Wisconsin-Superior will visit St. Paul for a 7 p.m. game.
